Hampden Yards: A Look Back at Summer

Brrr, it's chilly today. As I sit here drinking coffee and thinking of apple-pie-in-a-jar, I can't help but want to say goodbye to summer.

Hampden is famous for its kitschy lawn ornaments: this posterboard image of the Virgin Mary and the baby Jesus is one of my favorites so far. How can you not love a chance to take a photo of yourself as the infant Christian Messiah or his virgin mother?

The yard pictured above was my favorite summertime yard. It was a definite wildlife habitat, I saw sparrows absolutely loving the sunflowers, and there were butterflies and other pollinators galore among the flowers. And that rooftop cactus garden is such a great extra touch. (click on the photo if you'd like to see a larger image.)

Below you can see the neighbor's yard, with a very different take on lawn ornamentation.

I love Hampden so much, and Charles Village too for what its worth, If I was looking at buying a place it would definitely be in that area, because the yard is such an important part of a home, and the yards there are amazing
