Update of the Day #2: Bucket Planters

The rats (I am assuming) ate all the spinach and arugula seedlings, but the garlic is doing fine! I know that three or four bulbs of garlic isn't a whole lot of food, but once I get some rat wire or mount the buckets high up on a table, this "double layer" planting method looks like it is a great use of container space.

I'll be able to plant garlic/ginger/chives/carrots/daikon or other similar vegetables in the lower levels of the bucket. Then I can plant lettuce/herbs/spinach on the upper levels of the soil. Hmm, looks like I'll have to do a little research on companion planting...
